This area, which is called Nishitama, is a neighborhood located to the west of the metropolitan area in Tokyo. There are mountains, rivers, good old Japanese culture and sound of nature instead of crowds, skyscrapers and bustle of a city. It's a part of a national park.
In such surroundings, people and nature coexist in harmony.
1. JR Musashi Itsukaichi Station
2. Ryushuin Temple
This mountain temple has a 600-year history. The temple is a paradise of cherry blossoms, mountain cherry blossoms, weeping cherry trees, mountain azaleas and a wide variety of other flowers in spring.
3. Traditional Folk House
There is one traditional house built in the early 18th century with a thatched roof on a mountain.
A small monorail car takes us to this historical architecture located at an altitude of 750 meters. This vehicle slowly goes up on a steep slope and it’s so exciting.
You will see the inside of the important cultural property and a life style of those days.
4. Lunch at Local Restaurant
The restaurant is situated near the Kanotoiwa Rock trail. There is an outdoor terrace beside the forest and river, allowing you to savor your lunch while enjoying the fresh air.
*We will visit other restaurants when this restaurant is not available.
5. Cherry Blossoms at a bus stop
There are two big weeping cherry trees, known as shidaresakura in japanese, behind the bus stop.
The bright pink-colored flowers along drooping branches beautifully cover a top of the stop in April.
That looks amazing and also totally instagrammable.
6. 12 meter tall statue of Buddha
"Rokuya Daibutsu"
The second tallest Great Buddha in Japan, following the Great Buddha of Nara, has been unveiled at Houkouji Temple in 2018. Let's see the brand-new bronze statue.
7. Ishikawa Sake Brewery
Established in 1863, Ishikawa Sake Brewery is a distinguished sake maker that brews beer besides sake. There are many Kura buildings, which are traditional storehouses in Japan and used as brewing facilities by Sake breweries. Those buildings were built during the 19th and 20th century
